Genshin Impact Tips

Genshin Impact is a gorgeous game with a huge world to explore and many secrets to uncover. While starting your adventure in the world of Teyvat is easy and feels natural to do, there are several little details that will help you have a better time and overall make your life easier. The goal of this Genshin Impact Tips Guide is to help you understand how some important aspects of the game work and become more efficient at exploring Teyvat. The following Tips are great for new players but also for not so new Genshin Impact players, since there is always something new to learn in this amazing game!

1. Switch Characters often when in Combat

Genshin Impact is not your typical Open World RPG. You may start the game with one only character but you will soon find yourself enjoying the company of many more. You can unlock those characters by completing the game’s main quest or by earning them through the wish system. All characters deal specific elemental damage with their skills, pyro(fire), water, cryo(ice), electro(lightning) etc.

That is the heart of Genshin Impact’s Combat System. The way the elements react to each other. Your goal should always be to trigger reactions that deal significant damage and defeat the hardest enemies in the game. To achieve this you have to switch characters often, apply their element and force them to react. Elements react differently with each other and produce unique results.

For example, when Electro reacts with Pyro, Overload happens creating a massive explosion that deals Pyro AOE damage. When Electro reacts with Water, Electro-Charged happens that deals ongoing Electro Damage to your enemy. There are several Elemental Reactions available that can help you defeat specific opponents and progress in the game faster.

2. Mix your Elements – Elemental Resonance

As you unlock more and more characters, you will have access to different elements to bring into combat. The characters you pick to fill your party determine the type of Elemental Resonance you can have. Elemental Resonance depends on the type of Elements your characters can use and offers different boosts to your party. These are the possible combinations:

  • Protective Canopy(Four different Elements) = All Elemental Resistance and Physical Resistance +15%
  • Fervent Flames(Two Pyro Characters) = Affected by Cryo for 40% less time. Increases ATK by 25%.
  • Soothing Water(Two Water Characters) = Affected by Pyro for 40% less time. Increases Max HP by 25%.
  • Impetuous Winds(Two Anemo Characters) = Decreases Stamina Consumption by 15%. Increases Movement SPD by 10%. Shortens Skill CD by 5%.
  • High Voltage(Two Electro Characters) = Affected by Hydro for 40% less time. Superconduct, Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Quicken, Aggravate or Hyperbloom have a 100% chance to generate an Electro Elemental Particle (CD: 5s).
  • Shattering Ice(Two Cryo Characters) = Affected by Electro for 40% less time. Increases CRIT Rate against enemies that are Frozen or affected by Cryo by 15%.
  • Enduring Rock(Two Geo Characters) = Increases shield strength by 15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield will have the following special characteristics: DMG dealt increased by 15%, dealing DMG to enemies will decrease their Geo RES by 20% for 15s.
  • Sprawling Greenery(Two Dendro Characters) = Elemental Mastery increased by 50. After triggering Burning, Quicken, or Bloom reactions, all nearby party members gain 30 Elemental Mastery for 6s. After triggering Aggravate, Spread, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon reactions, all nearby party members gain 20 Elemental Mastery for 6s. The duration of the aforementioned effects will be counted independently.

Pick your characters and form your group accordingly, based on the effect you want to have every time!

3. Do not Upgrade all your Characters at the same time

Upgrading your characters early is fast and easy but as you progress it becomes a lot more expensive and time consuming. To Level Up a character in Genshin Impact requires many items for Ascensions and new levels. It can be quite the process and can take time and a lot of Mora at higher levels. To be more efficient when leveling up, pick your favorite characters and focus on them first. Try all the characters in order to find which combination of weapon, element and skills you prefer. Then and only then start leveling up your 2-3 favorite ones.

4. Use the right Weapons and Artifacts

The Weapons and Artifacts you use with your characters determine their power and how effective they are. The skills of your characters scale based on a specific stat. If for example a skill scales with Health(HP), you want to use weapons and artifacts that boost that specific stat. Attack is the obvious stat to go after if you want to make your DPS characters deadly. Artifacts also come in sets of four, offering special bonuses for two and four pieces equipped. Using the sets appropriately helps you create specific builds and follow a specific gameplay.

As you progress in the game, it is important to also upgrade your weapons and artifacts to make them stronger. The items and materials required to level them up, increase the overall cost of upgrading a character which makes it easy to understand why it is important to focus on few characters at first.

5. Use Food

Food is rather important when dealing with stronger enemies but also while exploring Teyvat. Find and learn all the recipes you can. Different types of Food can boost your Defense, Attack, Critical Rate, as well as restore Stamina or even reduce the consumption of Stamina when climbing a mountain or swimming. Food is easy to neglect in the game because of how easy enemies are at the beginning but later becomes vital for completing challenges and defeating strong enemies.

6. Upgrade your Stamina as soon as possible

Stamina is important! It allows you to climb higher, swim farther and run for longer. It is the most important stat in the game for exploring and not only. Stamina is vital for dodging enemy attacks in combat and can help you survive. This is why you need to upgrade it as fast as possible. To achieve this you have to level up the Statues of the Seven, found in the world of Teyvat. The statues require a certain amount of Oculi in the different regions in order to reach a new level.

With every new level you gain several rewards, including more Stamina. You can find the Oculi by exploring the world and paying attention. When you are close to one, a Star will appear on your mini-map. Once you have reached Reputation level 2 you can also learn how to craft the Oculi Resonance Stones. These stones will help you find the Oculi by guiding you to the nearest.

7. Use your Sigils

As you explore you also find and collect Sigils. These are basically an extra currency you can use, to obtain several items from the Gift Shops. These items can be character ascension materials, weapon prototypes, Mora and more.

8. Bookmark Everything

You can set up bookmarks on your map. Do it! It is easier to return to Points of Interests like this or know where to find a specific type of enemy when you need to farm the items they drop. Bookmarks are very helpful and can make your life easier so do not hesitate to use them.

9. Adventure Rank is your real level

Your characters may have their own levels but what really matters is your Adventure Rank. Reaching specific levels of the Adventure Rank, unlocks more features in the game and allows you to face stronger opponents with better loot. The Adventure Rank is your account’s level basically and you want to increase it for better rewards and a better challenge. Leveling you Adventure Rank up, levels up the World. This can happen automatically or you may need to complete a quest first.

10. Complete Battlepass Quests

When you reach Adventure Rank 20 you unlock the Battlepass. The Battlepass lasts for a specific period and offers daily, weekly and period quests. Completing these quests increases your Battlepass level, up to maximum level 50 for every period. Each Battlepass level rewards you with additional items, like Mora, character level up materials, weapons, Fates to use in wishes and even primogems. The rewards are divided in free to play and premium. To receive the premium rewards you have to unlock(buy) the Gnostic Hymn.

11. Always use your Resin

Resin is without any doubt, the most important currency in Genshin Impact. Original Resin is required to receive rewards from defeating Bosses, Ley Line Blossoms, domains as well as special event challenges. Original Resin is capped at 160 and replenishes at a rate of 1 every 8 minutes when used. You can use Fragile Resin(Reward from Adventure Rank level up and other activities) to replenish instantly 60 Original Resin or buy more with primogems, which is rather expensive. Without Resin you cannot progress so it is important to always use it, get rewards and wait for it to fill again for more. Like this you can use more than 160 every day.

12. Individual Wish vs Wish x10

It does not matter. The game will give you a guaranteed 4-star item every ten draws no matter if you have wished for 10 draws at the same time or if you are wishing one by one. Wish whenever you feel like it!

13. Use your Stardust & Starglitter

Whenever you wish, you also get two extra currencies, Stardust and Starglitter. These can be used in the shop to buy several items including Fates but also new characters! You can buy 5 Intertwined and 5 Acquaint Fates with Stardust every month that you can later use to wish some more! Save 34 Starglitter and buy a character you miss. You can buy Fates with Starglitter as well but it is better to just save them and get a character you really want but are not lucky enough to get through wishes.

Enjoy the game!

Last but not least, do not forget to enjoy this beautiful game and its world. It is easy to lose yourself in farming specific items to level up your characters or weapons but do not forget to admire the scenery and just look around for cool new secrets and treasures!
