Genshin Impact Free Characters
Unlocking and upgrading new characters is an important part of Genshin Impact. The game offers a plethora of characters to players, each with their own unique abilities, weapons and Elemental Attacks. The most common way to unlock a new character is by being lucky enough to get them from a wish. But there are also a few characters you can get for free in Genshin Impact!
They may not be the strongest but they will help you progress and defeat stronger enemies, early in the game. Unlocking them is quite easy as well. For most of them all you have to do is follow the main Quest!

Free Characters in Genshin Impact
In total there are eight Genshin Impact characters you can get for free at any time. Every now and then, new events also offer the chance to acquire other characters for free as well, as an event reward. The Genshin Impact Characters you can unlock for free are:
1. Traveler
The Traveler may be the main character of the game’s story but is also one of the many characters you can unlock and upgrade. When you start the game you can choose a male(Aether) or female(Lumine) version of the Traveler. They both have the same abilities and attacks, the only difference lies in aesthetics and personal preference.
The Traveler can use Element based abilities as well. You can switch between the elements by visiting a Statue of the Seven in the available areas and choose to Resonate with the appropriate Element! Traveler is not very strong but can be helpful early in the game and when trying to complete puzzles around the world of Genshin Impact.
2. Amber
The very first free character you get to unlock in Genshin Impact! Amber is a Bow user with Pyro based abilities that can help with exploration and completing puzzles. She is not very strong but can help early in the game. To find and unlock Amber all you have to do is follow Paimon’s directions at the beginning of the game. She waits outside the city of Mondstadt and is impossible to miss her.
3. Kaeya
Kaeya is a Sword user with Cryo based abilities you can unlock in the city of Mondstadt. By following the main quest of the game you will eventually accept the Crash Course quest. Completing the quest, unlocks the character. Kaeya can be an asset early in the game, thanks to his ability to freeze and crowd control enemies. This will make it easier to deal with groups of enemies but also harder opponents.
4. Lisa
Another Mondstadt based character that you get to unlock early in the game. Lisa is a Catalyst user with Electro attacks. Which makes her valuable to have in the same party along with Kaeya, since you can trigger the Superconduct Elemental Reaction and deal more damage. To unlock Lisa, follow the main quest of the game and complete the Sparks Amongst the Pages quest. Lisa and Kaeya can make a nice combo and will assist your party until you can find better Cryo and Electro based characters.
5. Xiangling
Xiangling is a bit stronger than the other free characters listed here but will also require some work to get. A Polearm user with strong Pyro attacks, that will become your main DPS character once you unlock her. To unlock Xiangling you must first complete Floor 3, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss for the first time. To unlock the Spiral Abyss however, you must first reach Adventure Rank 20.
6. Noelle
Noelle is not a traditional free character but you can unlock her for free thanks to the Beginner’s Gacha Banner. This banner is available only to new players and will disappear after twenty wishes. This banner is basically an introduction to the Gacha(Wish) system of Genshin Impact that offers a guaranteed Noelle character. Noelle is a great support character that provides shields to the party and deals decent damage.
7. Barbara
Barbara is a Hydro character that can assist your party as a Healer! To unlock Barbara for free you will have to complete the Prologue: Act III Quest “A Long Shot”! Barbara can be an asset for every party thanks to her heals and Hydro element that can trigger reactions easily.
8. Collei
Collei is another free character you can get by completing a specific floor in the Spiral Abyss! To unlock Collei all you have to do is complete Floor 4, Chamber 3 in the Spiral Abyss. She is a Dendro element character that can assist you with the appropriate Elemental Reactions and with exploring Sumeru!
9. Lynette
Lynette is a Fontaine character you can get for free by simply reaching Adventure Rank 25 in Genshin Impact! A strong Support or Sub DPS Anemo character that can trigger reactions and boost the ELmental Damage of your Party!
Event Free Characters in Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact special Events also offer you the chance to acquire certain characters for free! These characters can be strong and help you create even better parties. The events that offer characters for free are obviously time limited and require you to complete specific tasks to unlock characters. Some of the free characters we had so far include Barbara, Fischl, Diona, Xingqiu and more!
